Living in Millet: Pros and Cons to Know
Living in Millet, Alberta: Pros and Cons You Should Know
You Can Watch The Video HERE
Thinking about moving to Millet?
Before you make any decisions, here’s the real scoop — five reasons you might absolutely love living here, and five things that might make you pause and think it through.
THE CONS
1. It’s a Small Town — REALLY SMALL
Millet is small.
If you’re someone who wants a Starbucks on every corner or a big shopping centre five minutes away, this probably isn’t the place.
You’ve got your essentials, but for bigger shopping trips you’re heading to Leduc, Wetaskiwin, or even Edmonton.
2. Limited Job Opportunities
If you work remotely, this isn’t a big deal.
But if you’re looking for a strong local job market, Millet isn’t exactly an economic hub.
Most people commute to Leduc, Nisku, or Edmonton for work — so you need to be okay with that drive.
3. Wildlife is Part of Daily Life
You’re not just sharing your space with neighbours.
Deer, foxes, moose — and sometimes even bears — pass through.
It’s charming… until your garden gets wiped out overnight.
4. Not Much Nightlife or Entertainment
If you’re looking for concerts, bars, or a wide variety of restaurants, you won’t find that here.
We have Leanne’s, which is 10/10 for food, drinks and small-town entertainment.
Millet is quiet.
For some people, that’s exactly the point — for others, it’s a dealbreaker.
5. Winters Can Feel Intense
It’s Alberta.
And in smaller, open areas like Millet, the cold and wind can feel even sharper.
If you’re not a fan of long winters, this is something to seriously consider.
THE PROS
1. Strong Sense of Community
Millet is the definition of a tight-knit community.
People know each other, support local businesses, and actually say hello when you pass them.
If you’re tired of feeling anonymous, this is a big shift.
2. More Affordable Housing
Compared to Edmonton and even Leduc, housing in Millet is more affordable.
You typically get:
- more space
- bigger yards
- a quieter environment
All without stretching your budget as far.
3. Close to Larger Centres
Even though Millet is small, it’s well positioned.
You’re close to:
- Leduc
- Edmonton
- Wetaskiwin
So you can still access everything you need without living in the middle of it.
4. Access to Nature
If you like being outside, this is a big plus.
You’ve got
:
- trails
- parks
- nearby lakes like Pigeon Lake, Wizard Lake and Coal Lake
Whether it’s summer or winter, there’s always something to do outdoors.
5. Family-Focused Lifestyle
Millet is very family-oriented.
There are
:
- parks
- a strong local school
- library programs
- community groups
- sports teams
It’s a place where kids can stay busy and connected without everything feeling rushed.
So… is Millet Right for You?
If you’re looking for:
- quiet
- affordability
- community
- space
It can be a really good fit.
But if you need:
- constant activity
- lots of amenities
- fast-paced living
You might find it limiting.
If you’re trying to figure out whether Millet actually fits your life, that’s usually the part worth slowing down and thinking through.
If you want to talk it out without pressure, I’m always happy to help.
